Turkey Reintroducing the DEATH PENALTY for Soldiers Will End Chances of EU Membership Bid

The EU is currently debating Turkeys ‘Visa Free Travel’ Bid, which is all but falling apart after last week’s coup against President Erdogan.

20,000 Police, Soldiers & Civil Servants have already been arrested, with many being suspended. Erdogan has recently stated “these people must pay”.

One Turkish solider has already been beheaded in the street after surrendering, by an angry mob who were protesting against the military coup, after the Turkish President told Turkish People to “take the streets” against those attempting to oppose him.

Erdogan went on to say: “We will continue to cleanse the virus from all state institutions, because this virus has spread. Unfortunately like a cancer, this virus has enveloped the state.”

10’s of thousands of Turkish Citizens are demanding the death penalty of soldiers who formed a coup, But Oettinger, who is an ally to German Chancellor Angela Merkel, has criticised Ankara’s calls to reinstate the death penalty for plotters of the coup.

He said: “The death penalty is irreconcilable with our order of values and our treaties. No country can become a member state of the EU if it introduces the death penalty.”

It is estimated around 200 people died as a result of the military coup last week.
